Photography Training

Have you just bought a new camera, or maybe you’re considering asking Santa for one for Christmas ?   The array of buttons and dials can be confusing as well as terms such as “aperture priority”, “ISO” and “depth of field” to name but a few.  If this is stopping you from getting the best out of your camera then a one to one training session with me might be just what you need.  I can start with the basics and get you up to a point that you can go out and enjoy shooting with your camera in just a few hours.  I can also offer more advanced training shooting specific styles of photography.  A basic photoshop course is available too and this will enable you to get the very best out of your photographs.

  2. From auto to manual – get the best out of your camera.

Print Number 15 – Woodhorn Poppies – Number left = 6

Taken during the Weeping Window exhibition at Woodhorn Museum in Ashinton.

The installation was originally at HM Tower of London from August to November 2014 where 888,246 hand-made ceramic poppies were displayed – one to honour every death in the British and Colonial forces of the First World War.

The sculpture is one of two groups of poppies fashioned from the Tower of London’s massive installation called Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red which are touring the country.

Print Number 7 – The Angel of the North – Number left = 3

The iconic Angel of the North. Image was shot close to sunset and features some visitors in the image to give a sense of scale.

Since spreading its wings in February 1998 Antony Gormley’s The Angel of the North has become one of the most talked about pieces of public art ever produced.

Rising 20 meters from the earth near the A1 in Gateshead, the Angel dominates the skyline, dwarfing all those who come to see it.  Made from 200 tonnes of steel, it has a wingspan of 54 metres.

Print Number 2 – Blyth Beach Huts – Number Left = 3

Blyth beach huts, located at South Beach in Blyth. These huts can be rented by the public on a daily basis for the ultimate seaside day out.

Tossa de Mar 2015

I discovered Tossa de Mar about 8 years ago and since then I’ve been 14 times.  Less than 2 hours flying time and 30 minutes in the car and you’re there. We always stay at the Golden Bahia De Tossa hotel and simply wouldn’t stay anywhere else. A few days before this holiday I purchased a small travel camera, a Sony RX100M4. It was a bit of a learning curve but i’m very happy with the results.

Northern Frog Alliance

So i’m packing my case to go on holiday and I get a Facebook notification saying Kev Charlton is playing with the Northern Frog Alliance in a few hours time, despite a hurried suitcase pack I wasn’t going to miss this one.  The Ranch in South Shields was the venue and what a place it is, almost perfect for live music (apart from the lights of course, they are never right !), good beer and a BBQ in the garden. Several hours later we left the venue having been very well entertained, a great start to my holidays 🙂

Willowman 2015

A festival I hadn’t heard of at all but was invited to go along and take photographs on the Saturday. With a few band friends playing I couldn’t say no.  Arrived in the pouring rain but as soon as the music started the sun came out and the fun began. Make no mistakes, this is a small but perfectly formed festival, very well organised and laid out and a crowd who know how to party. Looking forward to Willowman 2016.

Corbridge Festival 2015

Another catch up addition to my website but a worthy addition I think. A full day of musical entertainment across two stages. A very well organised festival with some brilliant acts. The highlights for me where The Undertones, a band I had obviously heard of but knew little about, simply commanded the stage and played a blinder.  Lots of photos in this album but when you’re a photographer at a festival you want to capture everything.

Groovetrain at the Sage Gateshead

It’s a year ago today that this event took place, a day to remember. This was a charity event that managed to raise £6000 for a children’s charity so a worthwhile event for sure.

Photos of the musicians are here – click on the name – Russ Tippins – Immy Williams – Brendan Healey – Baz Warnes with Kev Charlton and lastly the headlining act Groovetrain.  Some behind the scenes images are here
